Day 4- Monday, Aug.30: We boarded in Basel!

Image
Amazingly, a small taxi took Nancy, Steff, Chuck and me, including all our luggage, to another hotel to register. We had to chuckle when the taxi driver took more time trying to find a spot for his booster seat than our 4 pieces of luggage, 2 backpacks and a large bag. After more documents, a Covid test and new ID cards, we were whisked off to the riverboat by bus. Had to close my eyes and take deep breaths when 2 buses on a narrow road passed each other on a road just wide enough for 2 small cars. I'm old, but not ready to call it quits yet.... Once on the Crystal Debussy riverboat, I could feel the magic in the air.  A buffet lunch was ready for us fit for royalty. And don't even think of pulling your chair in or putting your napkin in your lap. I'm going to take him home... One last nap to catch us up to the 9 hr time change (remember, we're a little older than you kids). when dinner was served, its presentation was so eloquent that you didn't want to touch it as...

Day 3- Sunday, August 29 in Basel, Switzerland

Image
The city is beautiful with rich historical buildings next to modern skyscrapers. We had  breakfast and dinner in charming restaurants overlooking the Rhine River. Watched a ferry tethered to a cable as it crossed to transport passengers against the fast flowing current. Two swimmers easily glided thru the water on their morning swim. Explored old town Basel with Steff and Nancy getting in our steps. Visited the Historisches Museum. Basel is known for its many museums. Thinking of my mom who was from Zurich......Catching up on sleep with this last nap. Taking longer as we get older... wishing you all a good Sunday. Stay safe! Krys

Phx to Atlanta to Amsterdam to Basel! We made it!

We made it!  Met up with Steff and Nancy in Atlanta. Almost 20 hours in airports and airplanes, sleep deprived, bodies adjusting to a 9 hr. time change, we are in beautiful Basel, Switzerland. Basel is on the borders of France, Germany and Switzerland, depending on which way you turn. It is a city of many bicycles, requiring weary Americans to stay alert. We checked in to our hotel, Motel One, in the center of the old city at 2pm, 5am Phx time. Too old to pull these all nighters! The bed held us hostage for 2 hrs so we could recharge. Walking around the square and nearby shops, we heard people talking in German, French and English. The church bells chime at 7pm daily for 10 minutes for people to reflect on their day. Today is Saturday, a cloudy day with temps in the 60's, everyone is enjoying it! We are still taking it all in. Had a delicious German dinner with Swiss beer and French fondue. Adding some pictures. Enjoy as you share our adventure! Left my phone charging in Phx. Can...
